The main goal of our progression course is for you to be able to take-off and land autonomously, and to serve as an introduction to dynamic and thermal flight. We will achieve this through a minimum of eight flights from different locations. We will practice reverse inflation of the glider (facing it), descent maneuvers and using the speed bar, as well as other exercises that will improve your progression as a pilot. All of this while also developing our theoretical knowledge (aerology, materials, safety in flight...).
Continue your development safely
The progression course is aimed at students who have completed a full introduction course and flown at least five times in the last two years.
It lasts five days. This course can be taken as a continuation of the introduction course or as a course in which to consolidate and perfect many other aspects of your flying.
The goal is to get to know new flying sites, perfect your piloting technique, acquire experience and achieve autonomy in known flying areas and non-turbulent aerology, according to your level as a student.
A perfect location for you to progress
Paragliding in Spain could not have found a better birthplace. The Benasque Valley, and especially the Castejón de Sos area, seem to have been created for paragliding. Thanks to its favorable climate and the layout of its valleys and mountains, we have before us one of the best paragliding spots in the world. If we add to this the great differences in elevation and the variety of takeoffs and landings, we have ideal conditions in which to get started in thermal flying and consolidate our knowledge.
Committed instructors
At Parapente Pirineos we are aware that progression in paragliding has to be adapted to each student individually. Our team is made up of paragliding teaching professionals with great experience. Each of the instructors is qualified as a paragliding sports technician. We have been together for years and we really love being able to transmit our passion and our commitment through technical and rigorous training. Our main goal is that you develop the skills to be able to enjoy flying in a conscious, progressive, and safe manner.
Progression course program
Ground handling practice
Paraglider control in wind, mastering pre-inflation and practicing reverse inflation. These will be carried out according to the existing conditions. Often there are suitable wind conditions on or near our takeoffs. If convenient, we may use training areas during the windier hours. Improving wing control on the ground is a never-ending pursuit.
theory lessons
Interpretation of aerology for various activities, such as descents, ridge soaring, thermal flight, etc. We will cover topics such as air stability, thermals and cloud formation, materials and flight rules, among others. We will explain the use of emergency systems.
Preparatory talks will be given for possible assisted flights in lift, appropriate to the student's level.
High-altitude flights
Introduction to ridge soaring and thermal flight.
One of the objectives will be to increase your takeoff autonomy in different conditions (taking off is the most delicate part in the beginning), resulting in more confidence and security for your future as a pilot.
When conditions allow and depending on our ground handling practice, there will be two flights in the morning (the first a top-to-bottom and the second with the possibility of thermal practice) and another in the afternoon (possibility of thermal practice or restitution).
When conditions allow, we can move in our 4x4 vehicles to other nearby flying areas, which are spectacular but difficult to access.
Maneuvers
We will improve our takeoff technique and glider control in different wind conditions without leaving the ground.
In flight, we will practice different landing approaches, descent techniques, use of the speed bar, combining speed bar with big ears, evaluating our glide angle during our approach to improve landing precision...
Consecutive, symmetrical and asymmetrical coordinated turns will be made to compensate for wind, relocating thermals, joining thermals and flying with other pilots... All this is necessary for thermal flying.
We will also discuss ridge soaring flight patterns, how to control drift and our flight path relative to the mountain.
DURATION
The progression course takes place over five days from Monday to Friday, both in the mornings and the afternoons.
